The Full Specs, Price and Review of HTC Aria Android Phones

HTC Aria Similar to the HTC HD Mini in style, the Aria runs on Android 2.1 with HTC’s Sense user interface and includes a fantastic deal of features for its size. It’s surely not the most potent device available on the market, power users may need to wait for the lately announced and we’re upset that AT&T has once again blocked third-party app downloads. However, the Aria is a solid midrange smartphone that’s definitely better than the Motorola Backflip, AT&T’s other Android offering. The HTC Aria costs $129.99 with a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate. We think it should cost a bit less $100 would be the sweet spot–but its price isn’t unreasonable .

HTC didn’t go all the way to appealing to Aria’s natural constituency – females. Aria is often a non-descript black slab with silver highlights and exposed screw heads; a a lot more industrial functionality look than casual or nightclub style. Its rubberized case gives Aria a protective “sure grip.”

The Aria is fronted by a bright 3.2-inch, 320 x 480 display. On the rear is really a 5-megapixel camera that doubles as a VGA video recorder and speaker. Up top is the power button along with a three.5mm headphone jack. On the bottom is a microUSB jack. Its only other physical functions are a tiny action button (which also acts as a camera shutter button) beneath four touch controls, and also the volume toggle on the left perimeter – so flush to the surface as to create it impossible to control by really feel with the phone to your ear.

With Android 2.1 you get seven property screens, which turns out to be much more required than usual contemplating the Aria’s smallish screen. For the socially inclined, HTC Aria includes FriendStream, which is an app that aggregates your Facebook, Twitter and Flickr updates.

Inside is barely 100MB of user memory and a (thankfully) pre-installed 2GB microSD card. Thankfully since, in case you need to expand, you’ll have a devil of a time trying to pry off the back cover to swap out the card.

Camera - The Aria is really a competent little shooter, with a 5-megapixel camera strapped to its back. The autofocus is as snappy as usual on a smartphone. You’ll do better in good light (naturally), and you are fairly much dead inside the water inside the dark, as the Aria doesn’t have a flash.Video also is on par for a smartphone camera. It shoots in VGA resolution (640×480), and colors are a bit washed out. The Aria’s camera app has an on-screen vertical sliding zoom on the left, which we found awkward given that it demands you to make use of your left thumb whilst holding onto the phone with two hands. Size shouldn’t have impacted video recording, but for some reason the Aria has only a VGA recorder instead of an HD recorder. Whilst suffering some interpolation fuzziness, 30 fps VGA videos are nonetheless free of charge of pixelization, if tending toward the dark side.
